Netball

Today, all members of our after school netball team participated in a friendly training game against Boughton here at St. Thomas'.

This was the first match ever for the team against a team who had already played before in tournaments and leagues.

All 10 members of the squad played well, learning positions, skills and teamwork throughout the match. Despite a narrow 4-3 defeat, all of you should take comfort in your application and be proud of your accomplishments. Well done team St. Thomas: Noah, Edith, Joel, Jadon, Jasmine, Gloria, Olivia, Darcie, Leya and Mysha.

"I was so excited I couldn't really sleep the day before!" - Noah, Year 4

"We played really well and tried our best." - Edith, Year 4

"I really enjoyed the experience and I can't wait for a rematch." - Jadon

"They were a good team and passed the ball quickly. We defended as best as we could have and could have scored more." - Leya, Year 6

Basketball Competition

Today, St. Thomas' Catholic Primary School made the short trip to Herne Bay High School to participate in a Basketball tournament against 15 other primary schools from around the local area.

Our team of 9 - Jesse, Olivia, Joseph, Melissa, Jasmine, Elena, Caelean, George and Taya - played with enthusiasm, great team spirit, skill, determination and pride throughout the event.

Unfortunately, we were unable to advance from our group, having won 1 match and lost 2 - loosing out on goal difference - to the round robin section of the tournament.

Ms. Jopling was very proud in each and every one of you for your huge efforts. Well done to you all!

St. Thomas' Catholic Primary School 1 Bysing Wood Primary School 4

Well played our girls team, who came up against really strong opposition (they had finished 2nd in their group). All girls played with great enthusiasm, energy and sportsmanship. We started shakily and found ourselves 2 goals down, However Jolena scored to get us back into the game and despite our best efforts to grab a 2nd goal, we were caught on the break twice.

Well done to Alexa, Bella, Lilianna, Jolena, Edhayln and Amelia - you were superb.

"I cant believe I scored" - Jolena

"I made some great saves" - Alexa

"They were a good team but we tried our best" - Lilianna

"I was so tired" - Bella

"We did well against a good team" - Edhayln

"I cant wait for the next match" - Amelia

In an even contest our boys team came out as narrow victors with the only goal of a tight game coming from Mikey. Both teams had chances, with both goalkeepers making wonderful saves (well done Emil). Once we managed to score, we played the game out really well - game management at it's finest.

Well done to Emil, Mark, Dexter, Dominic, Santi, Mikey and Jan.

"I thank my team-mates and Mr. Todd" - Mikey

"That was a tough match, we could have scored more" - Santi

"I am so proud of my team" - Dominic

"Yes.... what a win" - Dexter

"I wasn't going to concede and stopped everything" - Emil

Schools Cricket Day out

Friday 28th June 2024

Today, year 4 and year 3 made there way to the Spitfire Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, Canterbury for a cricketing experience of a lifetime.

The children began the day with a tour of the ground which included an active quiz. We then used the same facilities as the professionals - the state-of-the-art The Ames-Levett Sports Centre to practice bowling, fielding and batting, coached by the coaches of Kent County Cricket Club. We had the chance to learn more about the sport and have fun as well as developing skills such as teamwork and resilience.

We were also fortunate to see players from Kent train before meeting many of them, who took the time to speak to use and sign autographs.

We finished with lunch in the Pavilion - where the players eat.

What a wonderful day!
