  • Gold Award for Sport

    Fri 11 Oct 2019

We are delighted to announce that we, St. Thomas' Catholic Primary School, have achieved the School Games GOLD Mark Award for the 2018/19 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in
2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

With lots of our children competing in local inter-school
competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of
participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that
the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

A special thanks goes to the team at the Herne Bay Sports Partnership and St. Anselm's Catholic School, who organise and run many of the sports competitions we participate in.

St. Thomas' Catholic Primary School has a clear focus for sport, health and well-being. Over the summer, the school invested heavily installing a Multi-Use Games Area specifically for football and netball, and a Daily Mile track circulating the school field.

On the 26th September, St. Thomas' Catholic Primary School was pleased to welcome Darran Challis to the school. Darran is an Invictus Competitor and competed at the 2016 Games in Cycling and Swimming. He sustained spinal, leg and pelvis injuries when he was on active duty in the Army after 26 years of service. His next goal is to be selected for Team GB for the Ironman distance.

During Darran's visit, all pupils enjoyed a physical activities session with the athelete, testing the endurance levels of pupils and staff alike! The visit colmantated with an assembly led by Darran on the importance of sport, health and well-being.
